Submitting a Lead Article or Student Note

TELJ publishes two issues a year. Each issue contains three primary sections: lead articles, student notes, and development articles. Practitioners and academics in the fields of environmental, natural resources, and administrative law contribute the lead articles. Law students around the country may submit student notes to TELJ for possible publication. Developments articles on recent environmental cases, statutes, and regulations are written by TELJ student editors in association with attorney editors from the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.

We accept scholarship from practitioners, academics, and students around the country, as detailed more specifically below. TELJ does not enforce submission deadlines for lead articles or student notes. However, Issue 1 is generally filed by August 30th and Issue 2 is generally filled by December 31st.

Lead Articles:
TELJ's lead articles are focused on environmental, natural resources, or closely related topics of concern that will interest Texas environmental practitioners and academics. We typically require our articles to deal with issues that will be relevant to environmental practitioners and academics in Texas.

Ashleigh Acevedo—TELJ's Attorney Editor-in-Chief—is the primary contact for submitting lead articles. Lead articles may be submitted by email to Ashleigh Acevedo, but we significantly prefer articles to be submitted via either ExpressO or Scholastica. If electronic submission is not possible, please contact Ashleigh Acevedo. Submissions should include at minimum include the most recent draft of the article and a resume/CV. Cover letters are optional but encouraged.

Student Notes:
Student notes are pieces of legal scholarship that were written while the author was a student. Generally, student notes discuss or analyze a specific, current issue in environmental, natural resources, or related area of law. Published pieces typically make an argument or take a clear position and are helpful to either practitioners faced with related issues in practice or academics in environmental, natural resources, and related areas of law. Please refer to TELJ's Student Note Submission Guidelines and Requirements for detailed guidance on submissions.

We happily accept excellent student notes from all around the country, but Texas-based law students from the following institutions are particularly encourage to submit their work for consideration:
Baylor University School of Law, Waco, TX
SMU Dedman School of Law, Dallas, TX
South Texas College of Law, Houston, TX
St. Mary’s University School of Law, San Antonio, TX
Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Houston, TX
Texas Tech University School of Law, Lubbock, TX
Texas A&M University School of Law, Fort Worth, TX
The University of Texas School of Law, Austin, TX
University of Houston Law Center, Houston, TX
TELJ's Lead Articles and Notes Editor is the primary contact for submitting student notes. While we significantly prefer student notes to be submitted by email via the TELJ Submissions email, we also accept submissions via ExpressO and Scholastica. Please indicate that you are submitting a student note. We do not accept physically-mailed manuscripts of student notes. Submissions should include the most recent draft of the article and a resume/CV. Cover letters are optional.
